Press release -
South Africa: Danish Support Appreciated by South African Minister
The South African Minister for Energy, Ms. Tina Joemat-Pettersson and the Danish Minister for Climate, Energy and Building, Mr. Rasmus Helveg Petersen met in Cape Town to strengthen the cooperation between the two countries
Challenges in South Africa were in the spotlight during the discussions of the Danish - South African energy sector programme. South Africa is about to drastically transform their energy sector to reach the ambitious goals for reducing CO2 emissions and increasing the share of clean energy. Integrating renewables into the grid requires development of local knowledge. To meet this challenge the energy sector programme supports capacity building in Department of Energy and ESKOM using years of Danish experience.
Denmark and South Africa has a long tradition of cooperation in the energy field. The South African Minister for Energy, Ms. Tina Joemat-Pettersson, expressed gratitude for the Danish contribution in South African wind power development.
