Two recent analyses show that both solar, wind and biomass are competitive technologies on the island Lombok, in Indonesia. Furthermore it is shown that integrating 60% renewable energy into Lombok’s power grid, by 2030, is a cost-efficient initiative. These analyses are a result of the Danish-Indonesian energy cooperation.

Today the Danish-Indonesian island cooperation presented two analyses to support the low carbon transition in Lombok. The analyses suggest that a renewable energy share close to 60 % in the power system can be cost-efficient solution by 2030.

Energy consumption increased slightly in 2017. This covers a dramatic fall in coal consumption and increasing consumption of renewable energy. Overall, this led to a considerable drop in CO2 emissions last year. These are some of the results in the Energy Statistics 2017, which were published by the Danish Energy Agency today. Publication is in Danish, whereas Excel files are available in English.
Korean National Assembly visits the Danish Energy Agency to study the Danish experience in offshore wind

The Ukrainian Minister of Energy, Ihor Nasalyk, is currently in Denmark in order to mark the valuable results of the Danish and Ukrainian governments’ collaboration on energy. A delegation led by the Chinese Deputy Director General for Renewable Energy, Liang Zhipeng, has payed the Danish offshore industry a visit since Monday. The delegation comprises representatives from the Ministry, the Chinese State Grid and other key players in offshore wind in China.

Consumption of renewable energy increased by almost 11%, while coal consumption fell by 21% in 2017. Overall, this led to a large drop in energy-related CO2 emissions. This appears by the Danish Energy Agency’s preliminary energy statistics for 2017, which also show that Denmark's degree of self-sufficiency increased last year.

The Danish Energy Agency is assisting Indonesian power plants optimize their environmental performance and become more flexible as Indonesia substitutes coal with renewable energy. Indonesia currently has 6% renewable energy in the primary energy mix, but has a policy target to increase this to 23% by year 2025.

In April 2017, the Danish Energy Agency has launched Balmorel Lite, a web based energy model useful to assess the value of renewable energy into different electricity systems. This model has been developed by EA Energy Analyses for the Danish Energy Agency to be used by the partner countries in our GtG cooperation.
